North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate (and current lieutenant governor) Mark Robinson found himself in the midst of scandal this week after CNN reported on pro-slavery and anti-Semitic comments he made on an adult website. But new details are emerging suggesting Robinson has a unique affinity for Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

On Friday, the Washington Post reported that the "minisoldr" account linked to Robinson on multiple websites and social media platforms — including some profiles with his photo and the display name "Mark Robinson" — once suggested Hitler's manifesto to a user asking for book recommendations. While many of the comments minisoldr/Robinson made on the site Nude Africa have since been deleted, the Post reported that it obtained screenshots of deleted posts from someone "with access to the site."

"Mein Kampf is a good read," minisoldr wrote. "It’s very informative and not at all what I thought it would be. It’s a real eye opener."

The praise of "Mein Kampf," which refers to Jewish people as an "eternal parasite," is also noteworthy given the minisoldr account's claims of being a "Black Nazi" and wishing he could go back to a time when he could buy slaves. The account also made numerous disparaging remarks about the late civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and used an anti-Semitic slur in reference to TV sitcom writer Norman Lear.

“I’d take Hitler over any of the sh*t that’s in Washington right now," the account linked to Robinson wrote in March of 2012.

As the Daily Beast reported, the "minisoldr" moniker may be a reference to 1/6 scale toy soldiers that the user linked to Robinson dressed up in Nazi uniforms. Those model soldiers — made by manufacturer Ultimate Soldier — notably do not include Nazi emblems or symbols with their models, meaning the SS insignia displayed on the photos posted by the "minisoldr" account was painted by hand.

The Beast also reported that a duolingo account with the "minisoldr" username also spent several hours attempting to learn German. The account was created in 2018, before Robinson launched his political career.

The deadline has already passed for Robinson to be removed from North Carolina's general election ballot, and for him to drop out of the gubernatorial election. He denied being the author of the "minisoldr" posts and referred to CNN's reporting as "tabloid trash."

Former President Donald Trump has heaped praise on Robinson at his North Carolina rallies, calling him "an unbelievable lieutenant governor," "Martin Luther King on steroids" and "Martin Luther King times two." But since the emergence of the "minisoldr" posts, Republicans in the Tar Heel State are expressing fears that Robinson being tied to Trump could sink their hopes of keeping the state in Republican hands this November.

Attorney General Josh Stein, who is the Democratic nominee, is currently polling ahead of Robinson by anywhere from five to 13 percentage points according to the latest data aggregated by FiveThirtyEight.
